Quick explanations

These core terms are enough to get started with Bettie. You will also find the short explanations where they matter in the product.

Play Money
Bettie's free play-money balance. It cannot be bought or withdrawn.

Play Money is used only to simulate predictions in Bettie. Gains or losses affect only your play-money balance and never create a claim to money or any real-world benefit.

League Play Money
The separate play-money balance for private league predictions, marked with a banknote icon.

League Play Money is provided monthly for your private Mini-Leagues and can be used only there. Returns stay in this separate play-money world and affect neither your Play Money nor the public leaderboard.

Realized result
The total of your completed payments and returns from public predictions and sales.

This shows what you have gained or lost through completed prediction actions. Open positions are treated neutrally. The public leaderboard is stricter and counts only fully resolved markets.

Markets
Public questions on whose outcome you predict with free Play Money.

Every market has a question, a clear resolution rule, and a deadline. You can predict Yes or No, a number, or one of several answers. The final result is booked only after resolution.

Mini-Leagues
Private groups with their own questions and a separate League Play Money score.

A Mini-League lets members view and create internal predictions. Every Mini-League has its own monthly League Play Money balance and leaderboard; it affects neither Play Money nor the public leaderboard.

Leaderboard
The public ranking based on realized gains and losses in public markets.

Only completed transactions count: resolutions, sales, and refunds minus their prediction amounts. Open amounts do not change your rank, and void markets count as ±0. Portfolio, header, and leaderboard show the same number.

Portfolio
Your overview of Play Money, open predictions, completed actions, and realized results.

Here you see your current balance and what is happening with public predictions. The realized result is the same number shown in the leaderboard and header; open amounts are not completed and do not count there yet.

Prediction
Your forecast of what will happen in a market or which number will occur.

You choose Yes or No, an answer, or a number and use Play Money. Resolution shows how accurate you were. Scale predictions are binding; open Yes/No and multiple-choice positions can still be reduced or increased.

Probability
The crowd's current estimate in percent, not a guarantee of the outcome.

For Yes/No and multiple choice, the probability moves with user predictions. 63% means the crowd currently considers this outcome more likely than the alternative. The prediction dialog separately shows the price in Play Money and possible return.

Scale
A numeric market where you predict a value within a defined range.

After resolution, closeness to the actual value matters: the closer your prediction, the larger your share of the common pool. The slider shows the market's minimum, maximum, and step size.

Pool
The common pot containing all prediction amounts in a scale market.

After resolution, the pool is distributed by closeness to the actual value. Closer predictions receive more Play Money. If the market is voided, everyone receives their prediction amount back in full.

Resolution
The moment the real outcome is known and the market is settled.

Every market states a clear resolution rule, source, and latest resolution date in advance. Returns are then booked, or prediction amounts are refunded if the market is voided.

League budget
A separate monthly balance used only for predictions in private Mini-Leagues.

You receive 100 Play Money each month for league predictions. Returns stay in this budget and do not change your normal balance or global leaderboard position.

Consensus
The crowd's middle prediction in a scale market, weighted by amount.

Bettie shows the weighted median: roughly half of the committed Play Money is at or below this value and half is at or above it. Consensus is a snapshot of the crowd, not a certain forecast.

Mini-League wealth
Your position in a Mini-League: the League Play Money balance plus all amounts in open league predictions.

Mini-League wealth combines what you own in that Mini-League: your current League Play Money balance and amounts still committed to open league predictions. Returns move back into the balance after resolution; void predictions refund the amount in full.
